Supplementing your income with a web-based business

This page is incomplete.

If you can’t make enough money from your job or your editing business, or you’d like a career change, here are some ideas for expanding onto the web and diversifying your income.

Affiliations

Once you have a website, you can become an affiliate of other businesses. (You’re probably familiar with the many sites affiliated with Amazon.com.) Affiliations can be a good way to earn some money, but you need to spend some time selecting, advertising, and maintaining them.

Choose your affiliations with care. Pick companies marketing products related to the topics covered in your website. Even better, affiliate with companies whose products you personally use and can honestly recommend to your readers. For example, I use most of the products I promote on this website; some of the ones I don’t use are services that aren’t available to people living outside the USA, or they may be books or other products related to software I don’t use, but which other technical writers and editors have recommended.
